CarpInsula: A Paradise for Anglers and Nature Lovers
CarpInsula, a stunning nature domain of about 11 hectares, is located on the edge of the Belgian village of Holsbeek. Here, owner Jelle created his dream… He transformed an entirely overgrown and neglected complex of picturesque ponds, fens, and ditches into a paradise for the avid carp angler and nature lover. With one goal in mind: striving for perfection for the guest in harmony with nature! After years of preparation, he opened the domain in the 2019 season. If you love peace, beautiful nature, no other anglers on your water, and the subtle fishing for big fish, CarpInsula is the place to be. CarpInsula features several distinct waters, each offering a unique fishing experience. Here are the names of the waters on the CarpInsula domain:
Belly Pool:
Known for its lily fields and unique fish stock.
Dino Pool:
Home to nine different sturgeon species and a nice carp stock.
Frenzy Pool:
A superb lake for action-packed fishing.
King Pool
Famous for its large catfish, some over 2 meters long.
Mint Pool:
Another excellent lake for active fishing.
Origin Pool:
The challenging big-fish water, ideal for experienced anglers.
Scaley Pool:
Known for its large Stock of heavily scaled mirror carp.
Each of the waters offers a unique and rewarding fishing experience, maken Carp Insula a treu paradise for carp anglers.
Fishing at Origin Pool takes place from a spacious peninsula, where you and your fellow angler (or alone if you prefer) can fish and cover the entire water. Numerous hotspots can be found: from small pits, spots between the weeds, to small reed beds. Precision is key here, and careful placement often makes the difference between catching and blanking.
To ensure your peace and privacy, Origin Pool is exclusively rented out for a maximum of 2 anglers and 2 non-anglers for a weekend, midweek, or week stay. This way, you have the water entirely to yourself and can fully utilize your fishing techniques to catch a carp. Depending on the season, the water is clear and rich in weeds, so adjust your fishing accordingly. Jelle, the owner, is happy to advise you on the hotspots and the best approach on-site.
A lot of time, passion, and energy has been invested in creating the unique fish stock of Belly Pool. There are ‘only’ 25 carp, a few grass carp, two silver carp over 20kg, and an albino catfish over 25kg swimming around. Don’t expect runs, but hard work to catch one of these gems. With an estimated average weight of around 13.5kg and real gems of fish, Belly Pool is a water for the persistent angler who is hunting for real character fish. Over the years, a healthy and balanced carp stock has been established, which not only has excellent growth rates but also looks beautiful. Browse through the photo gallery, where ‘famous fish’ such as Fennel, Hudson, Yin & Yang, Peach & Pepper, Lucien, Dino, Black Spot, Het Zwijntje, and De Ton can be found.
Besides carp, there is hardly any whitefish in the water. This makes it perfect for fishing with small bait: ‘small and subtle’ is the motto here, but don’t be afraid to experiment and deviate from the standard. The carp are periodically fed with house pellets and the CarpInsula Super Carpmix during the winter season and in periods when there are no guests… a bait choice that has proven itself and is recognized and loved by the fish. The water accommodates a maximum of 2 anglers (or a maximum of 6 rods)… due to fishing from the peninsula, we highly recommend fishing with loose bank sticks to keep line pressure to a minimum.
Mint Pool is the ‘least difficult’ carp water on the CarpInsula domain. With around 50 carp in the water, there is always some fish near your bait, but you will still need to work hard to actually hook and catch the fish. The stock consists of a beautiful variety of common and mirror carp, but also koi, grass carp, and even silver carp up to 20kg are not to be missed. The average weight is perhaps a bit lower at 7.5kg compared to the other lakes on the domain, but the beauty of the fish and their growth potential make up for it! Additionally, there are of course some heavier specimens well over 15kg, so every angler has a chance at a real standout catch. The carp are periodically fed during the winter season and when there are no guests, with house pellets and CarpInsula Super Carpmix… a bait choice that has proven itself time and again and is recognized and loved by the fish. The water accommodates a maximum of 2 anglers (or a maximum of 6 rods)… due to fishing from the peninsula, we strongly recommend fishing with loose banksticks to keep line pressure as minimal as possible.
Frenzy Pool, along with Mint Pool, is the ‘least difficult’ carp water on the CarpInsula domain. There is always some fish swimming close to your bait, but you will still have to work hard to actually hook and catch the fish. The stock consists of a beautiful variety of common and mirror carp, but grass carp up to 20kg are also not to be missed. The average weight is around 9kg, which might be slightly lower than the other lakes on the domain, but the beauty of the fish and their growth potential make up for it! Additionally, there are some heavier specimens well over 15kg, so every angler has a chance at a real standout catch.
The carp are periodically fed with house pellets and the CarpInsula Super Carpmix during the winter season and in periods when there are no guests… a bait choice that has proven itself and is recognized and loved by the fish. There are about 12 grass carp (between 7.5kg and 20kg), 75 common and mirror carp (between 5kg and 15kg), 3 sturgeons up to 12.5kg, 4 albino catfish (between 5kg and 12.5kg), and 16 regular catfish (between 5kg and 30kg). The water accommodates a maximum of 2 anglers (or a maximum of 6 rods).
Fishing at Scaley Pool takes place from one of the long sides, where you and your fellow angler (or alone if you prefer) can fish and cover the entire water. Numerous hotspots can be found: from small pits to small reed beds. Precision is key here, and careful placement often makes the difference between catching and blanking.
Scaley Pool is known as the carp water with the most fully scaled mirror carp on the CarpInsula estate. With around 70 fully scaled mirror carp in the water, there is always some fish near your bait. In addition, there are also 10 common carp, 10 large grass carp (up to 20kg), 4 albino catfish, and 2 koi. The average weight is around 9-10kg, and the beauty of the fish and their growth potential is truly exceptional! There are a few heavier carp well over 15kg, giving every angler a chance at a real standout catch. During the winter season and periods when there are no guests, the carp are periodically fed with house pellets and the CarpInsula Super Carpmix—a bait choice that has proven itself time and again and is recognized and loved by the fish.
Dino Pool derives its name from the sturgeon, a fish whose prehistoric appearance truly speaks to its connection. Sturgeon don’t just swim there by chance… owner Jelle has managed, over more than 10 years, in collaboration with various fish breeders and passionate hobbyists, to create a unique stock of 27 sturgeons weighing up to 33kg and over 1.80m in length. What makes the sturgeon stock truly unique is that it includes no less than 9 different species, some of which are very rare varieties. Currently, Dino Pool has the following species:
Albino sturgeon
Atlantic sturgeon
Beluga sturgeon
Diamond sturgeon
Naccari sturgeon
Siberian sturgeon
Starry sturgeon
White sturgeon
Zebra sturgeon
In addition to the impressive sturgeon stock, Dino Pool also has a beautiful carp stock of about 25 specimens up to 15kg, including some beautifully scaled mirror carp. There are also some koi, grass carp, and silver carp swimming in the water. The fish stock is periodically fed during the winter season and when there are no guests, with house pellets and CarpInsula Super Carpmix… a bait choice that has proven itself time and again and is recognized and loved by the fish. Because the sturgeons have space and the water plan is fully tailored to the sturgeon, the growth rate and health of the fish are perfect. It won’t be long before personal records are broken here! The water accommodates a maximum of 2 anglers (or a maximum of 6 rods)… due to the enormous strength of the sturgeons present, we strongly recommend fishing with loose banksticks and supporting your rods very firmly.
Targeted fishing for large catfish in enclosed waters is still quite new in the Benelux. Through excellent contacts with French fish farmers, we have managed to assemble a unique catfish stock. There are about 40 catfish swimming around: 25 black catfish with an average length of about 1.5m. Note: at least 5 specimens are over 2m, and the largest specimen even measures 2.12m. There are also about 15 albino catfish in King Pool, which are slightly smaller with an average length of 1.25m… but there are still 3 known specimens that measure between 1.5m and 1.75m.
Because the catfish stock is very well fed, including live gibel and tench and of course many pellets, the health and growth rate of the fish can be called perfect. There is also a nice stock of smaller carp swimming around in the water… so in addition to static fishing with pellets or dead baitfish on the hair for the catfish, you can always set up a carp rod. That makes waiting for that monster catfish much more enjoyable! The water accommodates a maximum of 2 anglers (or a maximum of 6 rods)… due to the enormous strength of the present catfish, we strongly recommend fishing with loose banksticks and supporting your rods very firmly. NOTE: for the welfare of these large fish, it is MANDATORY to book the water with a minimum of 2 people!
