About a 10-minute drive north of Zwolle, De Koperen Hoogte, a 55-meter-high former water tower, rises on the right side of the A28. A striking and unmistakable building. At the foot of the water tower lies De Koperen Plas, a sand and gravel excavation of about 8 hectares. Previously, golf was played around the water, and fishing was strictly prohibited and only accessible to the owner’s close associates. The original carp stock, with specimens up to 30.2kg, has been expanded with a beautiful stock of fast-growing mirror carp. Since 2016, they proudly present to you the carp domain ‘De Koperen Plas’!
De Koperen Plas is a sand and gravel excavation of about 8 hectares with an average depth of about 8 meters and peaks up to over 17 meters. The extracted sand and gravel were used for the construction of the A28 highway, which is located about 100 meters to the east of the water. Around the water, a neat walking path has been laid out and seven spacious carp fishing spots. All spots are equipped with a beautiful gravel layer, electricity, a picnic table, and a docking point for the (optional) rowing boat. No expense has been spared in the construction, and everything is executed first-class. Safety for the fish has also been considered, with a landing net, unhooking mat, weigh sling, and tripod available at each spot.
The domain De Koperen Plas is located in the municipality of Zwolle, directly on the A28 highway at exit 22 ‘De Lichtmis’. The large domain is beautifully situated and neatly laid out. De Koperen Plas is completely enclosed and offers carp anglers a beautiful, quiet, and safe environment to fish in peace. The water has an interesting bottom profile with depths reaching up to 17 meters. It is therefore advisable to use a marker rod, rowing boat, or bait boat equipped with a depth sounder so that hotspots can be easily found using the depth map that you can download for free on this page. Due to the considerable depth of the water, anglers who have mastered spodding and zig fishing will be at an advantage. Underwater, there are also some obstacles to be found in addition to depth differences. It is therefore worthwhile to use a thicker mainline (e.g., from 0.35mm nylon) and an abrasion-resistant nylon leader. The use of a rowing boat is really a must, especially at greater fishing distances. Along the shore of De Koperen Plas, there is light weed growth, up to a maximum of 3 meters from the shore, so it does not cause much trouble. On the west and south sides of the water, we have laid out a total of 7 spots (of which spot 3 can only be fished with exclusive rental), suitable for a maximum of 13 carp anglers. Each spot is very spacious on the bank, at least 50m2. This way, you can easily place even the largest bivvies.
The fish stock at De Koperen Plas consists of a beautiful original stock of mostly common carp, with the top fish exceeding 20kg – currently, the lake record is 30.2kg (caught in May 2023) – and an introduction of 190 mirror carp (and 1 common carp) in the winter of 2015/2016. In February 2017, a second introduction took place with about 60 carp between 10-14kg, and three carp over 20kg. In February 2018, a third introduction took place with 63 carp between 10-25kg (including one over 15kg, one over 20kg, and one over 25kg). In total, we estimate the carp stock to be around 410 fish, with 9 known fish over 20kg and 3 known fish over 25kg. In October 2019, in collaboration with Carp Care, a beautiful koi carp of over 80cm was introduced, followed later that month by a small introduction of uniquely scaled mirror carp. In November 2021, about thirty beautiful common and mirror carp from there own breeding ponds were introduced. Due to the abundant presence of natural food for the fish, such as mussels, snails, freshwater crayfish, and mosquito larvae, the fish achieve an excellent growth rate. Of course, anglers’ bait and the pellets available on site also contribute significantly!
No expense has been spared in the construction of the facilities to ensure guests have a pleasant experience. In the fishing pavilion, you will find 2 showers, 2 toilets, dining facilities, and a fishing tackle shop. The site has a secure parking area, and the fishing spots are equipped with a picnic table and electricity. Additionally, each spot provides an unhooking mat, landing net, weigh sling, and tripod. A separate toilet facility next to the lake is accessible 24 hours a day. All spots are accessible by car, and you may leave your car at your spot during your stay. However, driving around the domain with your car during your stay is not allowed, except in emergencies. Please note: the roads around the water are particularly narrow, so be careful to avoid damage. You can also leave your car in the general parking area and transport your fishing gear to your spot by boat.
